His Own Worst Enemy (Pack of 10)
Life is not casual, but causal.
The Greeks invented a goddess named Nemesis. They believed Nemesis watched everybody’s behavior. When a person did a wrong deed, Nemesis immediately pursued that person. This goddess of vengeance was lame, so she was slow, but she never
failed to catch her victim, for while he slept, she still pursued him. Once she found the trail of the wrongdoer, Nemesis always paid vengeance.
Paul wrote, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life” (Galatains 6:7–8).
The Law of Sowing and Reaping is also called the Law of Cause and Effect, the Law of Retribution/Retaliation, and the Law of Compensation. Holiness is the harvest. Holiness is a harvest of sowing to the Spirit; sin is the harvest of the flesh. Corruption means decay, disintegration, and degeneration. The evil harvest of sin and the good harvest of righteousness follow as surely as sowing beans or cucumbers results in those vegetables.
James wrote, “Each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death” (James 1:14–15).
