New Testament Simplified
by Rob Whitacre
In “NewTestament Simplified,” Rob Whitacre goes through each book of the Old Testament giving a survey of its content, context, covenants, structure, key concepts, and review questions.
“But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by the faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster” (Galatians 3:23–25). Now that the tutor has prepared us for the faith of Jesus Christ, it is time to use what we have learned and reveal the King. “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope” (Romans 15:4).
The Gospel was hidden in the Old Testament but now it would be revealed in the New Testament. The Adamic, Abrahamic, and Davidic Covenants would be fulfilled as the seed of Abraham and David are realized in Jesus. He comes to establish His Kingdom, sit on His Throne, and rule over the church of Christ. While the prophets could only wonder with amazement about what their Messianic message would look like, we are able to see it unfold in the New Testament and live in it today! “Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into” (I Peter 1:10–12).
